The situation of refugees outside Europe’s external borders is getting more and more dramatic. Thousands already have died in the attempt to get into the so-called ‘Fortress Europe’. However, European policy seems to have chosen the road of increasing securitization and insulation towards immigration pressures. In this discussion, the experts will elaborate on the reasons and consequences of these policies, the role of Frontex, as well as possible alternative solutions to this pressing European and global issue.

Human Rights Force is a group of UCM students (University College Maastricht) interested in the field of human rights. It was founded in September 2008.
