A focused program of two days combining film, debates, drinks, bites, an information market, and high level speakers.
‘Money makes the world go round....’ or so they say. But does it? And for whom? And in ways that are equal for all? In the academic year 2009-2010, Maastricht Debates focuses on the relations between money, development and the protection of global public goods, from a European perspective.

Sending Money Home - November 17 at 7.30 PM
A debate on the role of migrants in development, with among others Cardozo Luna, Philippine Ambassador to the Netherland, featuring the short documentary ‘Sending Money Home’ on the local and international flow of remittances. Afterwards, drinks and live music by Astillero Tango from Buenos Aires. A joint effort of COS Limburg and Diaspora Forum for Development within the framework of Arc Mundi, and Maastricht Debates.

Film Forum on the development industry, featuring the documentary ‘Enjoy Poverty’ (2009) and a discussion with Renzo Martens, director of the movie, and Jack Karhoha, journalist from the Associated Press, Democratic Republic of Congo. Afterwards, drinks and live music by Indumbe.

The global financial system and development challenges: on September 22, three short fragments from Erwin Wagenhofer’s documentary “Let’s make money” (2009) were used to trigger the debate between the audience and the evening’s keynote speaker Herman Mulder, former head of Group-Risk Management at ABN Amro and now independent advisor to the United Nations.
